Not only did you raise a man, but you gave me the secret to success at a young age, which took me years to discover. You passed down your emotional drive and that one thing that I love the most is the enthusiasm you gave me and of course the music and books you ingrained in me that created a wildfire of imagination in my mind. One trait that you passed down to me that I am most appreciative of is responsibility. You pushed me to follow my instincts and film more and rap less and if I was going to rap you said I should read more and more so that I can be knowledgeable like The Roots was on history and literature and to tell stories. You always inspired me to make everyday a better day. You would stress about my smoking mayjane because you knew how much it led to a pipe dream that never came true. I just have to Thank you for that, it would behoove me not to… You taught me how to study by writing down words and writing their definition and you also taught me what to study. You made a way for me to be what, and who I am today musically and physically and emotionally. I thank you for all the books you may have picked up in you travels and put your stamp on and never finished that I now completed for you. For all the books you suggested and all the times you suggested that I should study my favorite film director Robert Rodriguez more. You were my biggest support and I want to thank you for being hard on me. I could’ve quit and been stuck on drugs and addicted to something, or a beggar, but I knew that I couldn’t fail because the failure makes me greater. I’m your success story if you ever felt like you didn’t succeed just look at your son. You were the best Dad I could ever ask for. You taught me to love my Black people and to believe I had what it takes to succeed. Even after death you are still teaching me. Even though I didn’t listen much to your wise words as you were alive, in your ancestral life I hear you and I follow your voice wherever I go. It’s because of you and your words of motivation to me long ago that I am a storyteller today. My Cousin Jordan for always being a warrior and going against the grain to show others how to be a maverick and stand behind your word. You (Jordan) always inspire me to motivate others thru my music and my media making talents.
