MAKEDA'S MAPS
(BANDCAMP VERSION)

Makeda's Maps is the album my idea of many genres of music wrapped into one CD.

The making of the album wasn't too tuff for me, what was tuff was not having many friends available to work on the album with me. Many times the thought of doing a solo album crossed my mind, but not being solo while making the project. I didn't feel alone, just felt like I needed someone to be a second opinion, or even just be a happy camper with me as I camped out in the homemade studio. I just thought they might hold me back sometimes. or stir me in a different direction.

Would I do it again, Yezzir. I feel like Mike Jack in the booth, it's just sometimes making the music seem too quiet. The studio is the size of a small corner office, so I can see why no one would want to be crammed with me LOL. In all honesty, I'm fkn witchu. shit was mad cool. I aint really write much on this album, the covers were covers. The tape go crazy in my eyez, I mean Shorty Got That Wu-Tang gotta be my favorite song, I wrote that one, I think most the others were Freestyles. No More black history was a old song I brought back, so was lyrics from 06, Really Go was written too, some old shit. Peace Best Ting was written too. But I think what makes the tape so hard is bringing in guitars and how the tape sounds so mastered I mean I engineered the whole tape using Ableton, Landr, and my ApC 40 MK 2 but it stopped working, I used my Turntables too. I'm pretty versatile in this music shit so I think that was what I was tryna accomplish, and tho I wanted an Accomplice I wasn't really trippin on people being there like that when it came to recording I would just put some studio shit on before I went in like maybe Kanye in the stu or jay z in the stu. Anything that would bring me inspiration. I aint really want to do it alone, and I and my bro G was going thru it like Bro u can't do it alone he kept saying niggaz like Drake got 15 people writing his songs and shit. So I think I was tryna keep it a buck and do it myself at the same time, that's how the whole tape started..... I mean I had three singles already two or three, but then that night we got into about writers and ghostwriters I went home and made Fresher than Mannie.

Other songs were already made or being made.
My wife was a big support, she would come in the studio aka the corner office, and just encourage me or be like Yo I'm hungry lol. My Bro G came in and would make a beat or two, we didn't use them on this tape, but I just liked having people in the room with me. But they were a big help, NPR tiny desks were a big help too, I would be watching them too. But I didn't want too much outside influence on this one. I just was studying the greats and finding my approach. Originally the tape was gonna be a full-on Reggae album, but I didn't think I could do that wholeheartedly without some help from real Jamaican artists so I'm like aight let's just make ah album that you can be proud of and that you would wanna bump in the whip.

After the first three or four singles were done and released I was like ok what's next?
Me and B had a baby on the way too so my time was starting to get divided and I would just make a song when I had the time or chance and then when my baby was born shit was really a wrap. I had to just get in there when they were both asleep. I had a couple of artists on this album originally but I think only one other artist made the cut, JBNZO, my cousin, but I was really tryna get a whole tape with just me on it. Which is what I feel like this is cause I mean 99% of the shit is just me. I'm also working at the time too so I'm like really dividing time but I can feel myself changing my music up with the covers so I'm like look when you release this it's gonna feel be the best shit you did yet so don't question shit. The rest was history. About a week after the tape was looking done, I started mastering it. I ain't really mix it like I wanted to, I was like just get it out, this is a RUFF DRAFT so fucc worrying bout what the mix should be, I can always re-release the tape just get the music out and do all that mixing later or pay someone to mix it.

I had two weeks off from work after having my baby girl so I just was using that time to master and finish any songs I didn't get to finish and then master those.

My approach aint changed, I took some covers, some originals, and took some freestyles, and some remakes, then added some other shit in there like instrumentals which aint make this version but maybe on the Apple Music version. But I took all that and mashed it up into a tape. Added my singles to the tape and said now it's done, put it out.

That's when I felt like I had discovered a map or created a map I should say like Makeda when she discovered America. And that's it. I really worked hard to create a blueprint for the next time I make a tape.

Now it's yourz. Enjoy that shit ima go give my daughter a kiss and change some diapers. peace.

Bong Bong.
